Turn the Diet Chat
Into Something Patients Can Track.
Diet advice is already part of what a dental team says every day, and a recall appointment rarely leaves room to follow it up. Prysm iO is a 15-second fingertip scan that reads skin carotenoid levels - the pigments found in colourful fruit and vegetables - and turns them into a single score a patient can watch change and you can ask about at their next visit. It runs alongside your dentistry, never in place of it, and any income it earns you is income you declare.
- A wellness reading, not a test: it says nothing about teeth, gums or disease
- Compact enough for a reception desk or hygienist room, paired with an app on a phone or tablet
- Your call whether, where and with whom you use it - and you declare your interest every time
No script and no obligation on the call - just enough to judge whether it has a place in your practice.

Dental Teams Already Talk About Diet. What Is Missing Is the Follow-Up.
Sugar, snacking, fizzy and acidic drinks: prevention guidance for dental teams, such as the Delivering Better Oral Health toolkit, treats diet advice as a normal part of care. But the advice is given in a few spare minutes, and by the next recall nobody can say whether anything has changed. Prysm iO does not add a test to your appointments. It gives one part of the conversation - eating more fruit and vegetables - a figure the patient can watch and you can ask about the next time you see them. It says nothing about their teeth or gums.

What Is in the Range, Without the Hype
Some patients who see a lower score will ask what else they could do, beyond eating more fruit and vegetables. The Pharmanex products that follow are built around carotenoids and everyday nutrients, and are designed to be highly bioavailable. Here is what the range includes, described plainly and with no promise about anyone's teeth, gums or general health.

Carotenoids, including lutein
Lutein is a carotenoid found in leafy greens and other colourful plants. Products in the range include it in a form designed to be highly bioavailable, alongside other carotenoids - the same family of pigments the Prysm iO scan reads in the skin.
A fruit-and-vegetable drink
JVi is a fruit-and-vegetable beverage that contains carotenoids and vitamin C. It is one option for someone whose score suggests their day is light on colourful produce.
DHA omega-3
Marine Omega supplies EPA and DHA. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision and normal brain function, as part of a varied diet.
Vitamins and minerals
The LifePak formulas provide a broad set of vitamins and minerals formulated to support the immune system and normal energy metabolism, among other everyday functions.
Substantiated Before It Reaches the Shelf
Nu Skin states that every Pharmanex formula goes through its 6S Quality Process: selection, sourcing, structure, standardisation, safety and substantiation. The last of those means product claims rest on documented preclinical and clinical studies. What convinces most people, though, is their own result: they scan, take the products, and watch their own score move.
Let the Score Settle It
Scan someone who is already on another product to record a starting point. If they decide to try a Prysm-certified alternative, scan them again over the following weeks and let them see what happens. Because the scan reads carotenoids in skin tissue, a rising score is an objective sign that what they are taking is being absorbed, rather than something assumed on trust.
Nu Skin backs this with a Prysm Score money-back guarantee: if the score has not improved after 90-100 days on a certified, Prysm-eligible product, it is refundable, subject to Nu Skin's Terms and Conditions.
100 Million Healthy Households
Some patients, and plenty of parents, will want a device at home so the whole family can scan and compare scores. Nu Skin's stated aim is 100 million healthy households, each with a Prysm iO and a shared habit of better choices on food and supplements. If you offer a patient a device, tell them you have a commercial interest in it, as you would with anything else on this site.
If a clinician has advised someone to take a particular supplement, it should only be changed with that clinician's agreement. The score is a wellness reading, not a reason to stop or swap anything a doctor, dentist or dietitian has recommended.
Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet, which should always come first. These products are not medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any dental or medical condition, and they do not replace dental assessment, diagnosis or treatment. Please check each product's label for its exact ingredients and amounts.
Four Questions a Careful Dentist Asks First
You are on the GDC register, you answer to a practice owner or a contract holder, and your patients take your word on what is good for them. So the sensible questions come before any enthusiasm. These are the ones we hear most, answered plainly.

"Isn't earning from this a conflict of interest?"
Ask it first, because the GDC does. Its standards for the dental team ask you to put patients' interests before any financial gain, to be honest about your interests, and to make sure commercial considerations never shape your clinical judgement. Practically, that means telling a patient plainly that you earn from Prysm iO, never nudging anyone towards a purchase, and never letting it touch a treatment decision. Plenty of dentists will choose to use it only away from their own patients. That is a legitimate choice. Check the GDC's guidance on conflicts of interest and speak to your indemnifier before you begin.
"Does it say anything about teeth, gums or decay?"
No. Prysm iO reads carotenoid levels in the skin of a fingertip, which is a marker of fruit and vegetable intake. It does not assess teeth, gums or the mouth, and it makes no claim to diagnose or predict caries, periodontal disease or anything else. It is not a substitute for a dental examination. Describe it to patients as a general wellness reading about eating habits - nothing more.
"My recall slots are already tight."
They are, which is why the scan is 15 seconds and pairs with an app on a phone or tablet, so nothing extra has to be booked. You will need to install the app and get to know it. After that, it can be run by a nurse, hygienist or receptionist, discussed at a later visit, or kept for a practice open day - whichever suits how your surgery works.
"I am an associate, or NHS-only, or a mix."
Most dentists are one of those. If you own the practice you set the rules yourself; if you are an associate, the practice owner will have a view and your agreement may say something about selling to patients. NHS contract terms and your practice's own policies can also limit what may be offered in the surgery. Read them first and ask if anything is unclear.
From a Fingertip to a Figure in Under a Minute
Light does the work here. A fingertip rests on the scanner, the device shines across it, and around 15 seconds later there is a personalised wellness score. No needles, no sample pots and no lab, so it makes little demand on a patient sitting in a waiting area or a hygienist's chair.
What comes out is one trackable result. It is not a dental measurement and it says nothing about teeth, gums or the mouth, but it is easy to explain and easy to come back to, which is what a short diet conversation needs.
Because each scan uses a fingertip on the same hand, results can be compared fairly from one visit to the next. That is what lets a patient's trend mean something, instead of one figure that moves depending on how the device was held. The device pairs with the Prysm iO app on an iOS or Android phone or tablet. You will need to install the app and spend a little time getting to know it, but once you have, the device is as happy on a reception counter as anywhere else in the practice.

Prysm iO is a wellness insight tool. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, prevent, or mitigate any disease or medical condition, and it is not a substitute for dental assessment, diagnosis or treatment, or for medical or dietetic advice.
Over in 15 Seconds
Brief enough to slot in beside a recall or hygiene visit, and simple enough to run from a front desk or a side room. No blood sample, no lab, no waiting for results.
Spectral Rai Technology
A single fingertip placement captures tens of thousands of individual light measurements through hyperspectral absorption, reading carotenoid-related activity in the skin.
One Score, Not a Data Dump
An AI model distils those readings into a single Prysm Score between 100 and 1000 - a figure a patient can take in at a glance, with no report to interpret.
Something to Come Back To
Patients follow their score in a connected app between visits, which keeps the diet advice you have given in front of them and gives you an easy point to revisit at the next recall.
Backed by Real Research
Over 20 years of Pharmanex R&D sits behind it - 110 clinical studies, 180 white papers, and 18 global patents. This is health-tech with a paper trail, not a wellness gadget.
Advice Sticks Better
When Progress Is Visible.
Most patients mean to eat better; what they lack is feedback. Prysm iO gives them a single figure between 100 and 1000 to follow in the companion app between appointments, and that you can ask about at the next one. It is a nudge towards a healthier routine, not a measure of their oral health.

Advice With a Scoreboard
Telling someone to eat better is easy; watching it happen is not. A skin carotenoid score tends to follow eating patterns and supplement use over time, so a patient who changes their habits can look for the number to move instead of wondering whether it is working.
A Built-In Reason to Re-Scan
Dentistry already runs on recall. A second scan at the next check-up or hygiene visit gives you both a before and an after to look at, without the appointment turning into a sales pitch.
A Friendlier Way In
Few people enjoy being told off about sugar. A number they can improve, and that belongs to them, lets the conversation be about what they might add to their plate rather than what they should stop having.
Worth saying out loud: a rising score is not evidence that anyone's teeth or gums have improved, and a low score is not a finding about their mouth either. Patients should hear that from you, in those words.
Six Ways Dental Teams Could Use This
Dental practice comes in many shapes: NHS, private, mixed, owner or associate, with a hygienist and therapist team of varying size. See whether any of these sounds like how your week is actually set up.

Private and Mixed-Practice Dentists
Longer appointments and patients who expect to be advised on more than their teeth make private and mixed lists the most natural home for a conversation about diet.
Hygienists and Therapists
Preventive appointments are where diet advice is most likely to be given, and where a patient may be glad of something to track. Whether a hygienist can offer it, and how, depends on the practice owner's policy and your own indemnity.
Cosmetic and Restorative Dentists
People investing in how they look are often keen on looking after themselves more broadly. A scan can suit a consultation lounge or an open evening, as long as it is presented as a wellness extra and not part of any treatment plan.
NHS Associates With Private Sessions
An NHS contract on some days and private work on others. Use Prysm iO only where the contract and the practice owner allow it, and only where you are comfortable declaring it.
Practice Owners
If the practice is yours, a scanner at the front desk can be run entirely by your team, leaving chair time untouched. You set the policy, so the declaring-your-interest side is yours to get right.
Dentists Who Teach and Present
If you already run school visits, community talks or oral-health events, a scanner gives an audience something hands-on, well away from your own patient list.
Sound like you?
If so, that is usually enough. Book a short demo and we will tell you honestly whether it belongs in your practice.
Income That Recurs, and the Rules That Go With It.
If someone decides to subscribe to a product after their scan, you earn commission on every recurring shipment for as long as they stay subscribed, whether or not you ever see them again. Because you are a registered dental professional, that income has to be earned properly. It holds up best when the interest is declared, the patient is free to decline, and the score is described honestly as a wellness figure. Handled that way, it can sit alongside your dentistry without pulling against it.

Open by Default
If Prysm iO comes up with a patient, tell them you earn from it. The GDC's standards expect dental professionals to be open about interests that could be seen to affect their advice, and it makes for a more honest conversation than one where the interest goes unmentioned.
Their Choice, Not Your Prescription
These are wellness supplements, not treatments. Nobody should be steered towards them because of what they might earn you, and never in place of dental advice or care. Patients keep the right to say no without it affecting how you treat them.
We Run the Subscriptions
Billing, shipping and delivery questions from subscribers come to us, not to your front desk, so nobody on your team ends up chasing a renewal or answering "where is my order?". Your involvement stops at seeing commission credited after each recurring shipment.
Read the Small Print Where You Work
Your NHS contract, your associate agreement and the practice owner's own policies may each say something about selling to patients or earning commission. Read them, and speak to your indemnifier, before you start. We cannot give regulatory advice, and would rather you asked than assumed.
What Might This Add Alongside Your Dentistry?
Enter figures that reflect how you would realistically run this, and see how scan fees, retail profit and commissions could build as subscribers accumulate. It is an illustration for you to test your own assumptions against, not a forecast.
Every figure comes from scans that are carried out and the subscriptions people then choose to take up. The 5-year figure assumes 10 scans a week, every week, without a break, and most people will not keep that up for five years. The real limit is finding enough people to scan in a setting where doing so is appropriate. Income of this kind should be openly declared, and how you use Prysm iO with patients is for you to settle against the GDC's standards and guidance, your contract or associate agreement and your practice's rules before you rely on any of these figures.

“A dentist is right to want to know what a score rests on before mentioning it to a patient.”
There are three parts to the answer. Skin carotenoids have been researched for years as a marker of fruit and vegetable intake. Pharmanex has spent two decades refining the scanning behind the device. And Prysm iO has picked up a Technology Innovation award at the TITAN Business Awards, a Wellness Insight award at the Globee Business Awards and a Good Design Award. None of that turns it into a clinical instrument, and it is not sold as one - but it is a fair reply for a colleague or patient who asks what is behind it.
Yale Researchers Tested the Underlying Science
The underlying skin-carotenoid science was independently evaluated by researchers at Yale School of Public Health, whose 2013 paper called it “an attractive biomarker for use in human studies” that is “highly reproducible and valid.”

A Way to Talk Wellbeing Where Nobody Is Your Patient
Dentists visit schools, run community sessions, teach and open their doors for practice open days. At any of these, a scanner on the table gives people something to try, without the questions that arise when you recommend a product to someone in your own care.
The Device Draws Questions
A small scanner with a lit ring, set out on a table at a school visit, a community health day or a practice open day, gets people asking what it does before you have said a word.
The Result Explains Itself
Each person walks away with a real number and a short note on what it reflects. That beats a leaflet on healthy eating, and it keeps things on general wellbeing rather than anyone's teeth.
Follow-Up by Invitation Only
Anyone who wants to know more can leave their details, with consent. There is no cold outreach, and nobody is signed up to anything they did not ask for.
